Rendered from digital to physical.

After working on producing a robust model of the whole Covid-19 Virion, we turned our attention to more detailed prints of the viral proteins. We took a small section of our digital model and edited it to include all four types of Spike protein, closed , open, double open, and postfusion. We also made sure an E protein was also present. The viral envelope was edited in such a way to allow parts to be taken off and proteins to be set inside the lipid bilayer.

Assemble and unassemble.

This model of the Covid-19 Protein Set unassembles into 13 pieces. The lipid bilayer arch or main-stand including the viral envelope, six smaller removable parts of the viral envelope - which act as doors - four types of Spike proteins, one E protein, and one removable M protein. All are joined via small magnets hidden inside the model. This allows each protein to be held and compared.

Detailed to a molecular level

This model is so detailed, the structure of the molecules of the viral envelope can be seen. Similarly, the hydrophobic regions of the proteins are denoted by a brown colouring. This is a brilliant high-resolution print of all the proteins found at the virion’s surface.
